Less Antibiotics = Less Drug Resistance A recent article in Clinical Infectious Diseases, suggested that Australia's policy of restricting antibiotic use in agricultural animals may impact drug-resistant bacteria found in humans.
In light of the increase in drug resistant bacteria in countries who extensively inoculate animals with antibiotics it seems ludicrous to say new research is only now coming to light. Shouldn't research on feeding antibiotics to food animals have been done before it was fed to the animals? This is the greatest error our food and drug agencies continue to make, it takes the word of drug companies, who have a vested interest in selling the product, over common sense and science. Check the full article. Junk Food Makers Try Gaining Back Consumer Dollar In an effort to gain back dollars lost to the health food industry, marketers of junk food are revamping some of their products. For instance, 7Up, a popular soft drink has been reformulated to contain only 100% natural ingredients with no artificial sweeteners. Unfortunately, some of the natural flavourings are just as bad, according to David Sarjeant and Karen Evans in Hard to Swallow, " ...if you see one of these terms (artificial flavouring, flavouring, natural flavouring or natural)on a label you can be almost certain that the product contains little or none of the ingredients from which that flavour would normally be derived." The bottom line here is it just makes good sense to stay away from junk food. Always read labels and always make your health a priority! Please don't miss out on any of the free lectures, classes, and workshops we are offering. We look forward to sharing new information in a new and exciting format.
